We started doing maple syrup in Manchester about 14 years ago. We started it the old- fashioned way by tapping the trees and emptying the buckets and boiling the sap in our house. This is our first year to have a sugar house. We are very excited to be using lines and not having to keep flipping the fuses to keep our stove running. When we started there were four children in the family and two adults. Now our two oldest boys have moved on into the world. Living at home is our daughter and our son, our two year old niece and our golden retriever Leo.
We will be tapping about 400 trees this year. We do not do this for a profit or a business, we do it because our family enjoys it. We love the process it goes through to get the final product. Yes we will be letting people in to see how we are set up and how maple syrup is made. We also will be opened for maple weekend which is March 28-29, 2009.
